Inspired by Islay

Islay, the “Queen of the Hebrides” is one of the most beautiful and beloved of Scotland’s Western Isles. Drawing on the island’s intriguing combination of Gaelic and Nordic cultural influences, and taking inspiration from Islay's distinctive Hebridean landscape, Kate Davies has created a collection of twelve stunning new designs in her own Buachaille yarn. Taking you on a journey around this unique island, Inspired by Islay also contains essays, interviews, and beautiful photography, offering a wealth of inspiration for knitter and general reader alike.

The club subscription comprises:

*12 individual patterns (delivered as weekly digital downloads to your Ravelry library from December 14th).

*10% discount on all products in the KDD shop for the full term of the subscription  (December 14th to March 1st).

*exclusive first access to a new Buachaille yarn shade upon its release (in January 2017).

*Weekly email updates (photography, essays, interviews) for 12 weeks, delivered to your inbox via an exclusive club newsletter.

*Full-colour 120 page Inspired by Islay book, delivered to your chosen address at the end of the club period (early March).

*Taking you through the winter months with a whole season of inspiration, a single club subscription costs just £30, with everything included, wherever in the world you are.

What can I expect from the Inspired by Islay patterns?

The collection is divided equally between garments and accessories. Half of the patterns are designed for wearers of any gender (and have been carefully designed and styled to suit any body from 30 to 60 ins). Whatever your knitterly preferences, you will find something in the Inspired by Islay collection to suit you among its haps and hats, vests and sweaters. Four of the patterns involve cables, three patterns feature stranded colourwork (including a Fairisle allover), three patterns incorporate slipped stitches and / or knit/ purl textured patterns, and two patterns include open work / lace stitches.

Patterns are arranged in four "stories", each of which explores a different geographical area of Islay, together with a different cultural theme / local inspiration source (archaelogy, geology, linguistics, wildlife). Each story is richly illustrated by beautiful photography, both of the island landscape and the knitwear collection. The book also includes interviews with artists, photographers and historians who are similarly “Inspired by Islay” and who share their local knowledge and expertise.
