Mercy Otis Warren

A pair of bold blue socks to celebrate the poet, essayist and early historian of the United States, whose political arguments were influential in the constitutional enshrining of a bill of rights. The motif I have chosen - of a twisted vine - recalls one of the most often-repeated Biblical verses in Warren's correspondence (as well as that of many of her contemporaries) during the years of the American revolutionary war:  "and they shall sit each under their own vine and fig tree, with none to make them afraid." Micah 4:4

This is the fourth pattern in our Bluestocking club, in which we explore the lives and work of eighteenth-century women writers - while knitting our own socks and stockings, in John Arbon's wonderfully woolly Exmoor sock yarn.

Pattern or kit!

Choose "pattern only" (for single PDF / digital download) or "kit" containing 3 x 50g skeins of John Arbon Exmoor Sock 4ply (60% Exmoor Blueface, 20% Corriedale, 10% Zwartbles, 10% Nylon; 200m / 219 yds per 50g skein) in shades Whortleberries and Mizzle, together with a wee project bag and PDF pattern download. The kit price represents a 10% discount on purchasing all these items separately.

After purchase, you will receive an email with a direct download link (to enable you to access your pattern straight away) and unique download code (to allow you to access the pattern via Ravelry, if you wish). We recommend that you download your patterns as soon as your message arrives as the link may expire after a few days. Follow the directions to pop the patterns in your Ravelry library. If you've not received your download instructions within 24 hours of placing your order, please first check any spam / social / promotions folders that may be set up on your account, then email us at info@katedaviesdesigns.com.
